Alice: HBO Max unveils the trailer for its historical series with Bérénice Bejo
The César-winning actress will be Alice Guy-Blaché, cinema pioneer and first female fiction director, in this ambitious historical fresco.
“I won’t let you erase me!”
Putting the first female director in the history of cinema back in her rightful place is also the mission of Alice, a new event series from HBO Max.
Bérénice Bejo plays Alice Guy-Blaché, pioneer of the seventh art, alongside Thibaut Evrard, Oscar Lesage, Irène Jacob and Yannick Choirat.
“From Paris to New York, Alice traces the destiny of a woman with multiple lives: artist, feminist, wife, mother, daring entrepreneur. Her thwarted loves, her professional struggles and her quest for recognition cross her story where the language of cinema is invented,” details the official synopsis.
Born in 1873, Alice Guy-Blaché worked alongside Léon Gaumont before launching into directing herself.
“A tribute to the first steps of cinema, notably with the founders of Gaumont and Pathé, the series retraces the extraordinary journey of this creative, daring and free woman who, from director to producer and entrepreneur, went so far as to found her own studio. A pioneer who contributed to writing the history of cinema before being almost erased” specifies HBO Max.
Alice will be available from December 4 on HBO Max, with the first three episodes, then the last three from December 11. The series will then be broadcast on France Télévisions in 2027.
