Dwayne Johnson announces the end of filming on Jumanji 3... for Danny DeVito

Already condemned by “Dunesday”, Jumanji 3 changes its release date

The continuation of the saga led by Dwayne Johnson was to be released a week before Dune 3 and Avengers: Doomsday…

This is what we call a strategic withdrawal!

Sony and Columbia Pictures have decided to postpone the release of Jumanji 3 to December 25, 2026 in the United States (including probably December 23 in France, but the date remains to be confirmed), i.e. two weeks after the initial date which was set for December 11 (December 9 in France).

A postponement far from trivial: the studio prefers to avoid a head-on collision with two behemoths expected a week after its release: Dune 3 And Avengers: Doomsday are in fact set for December 18 (in the USA and December 16 in France). A double event already nicknamed “Dunesday” and which promises to be carnage at the box office, in the vein of “Barbenheimer in 2023. “Dunesday” should not take any prisoners and monopolize most of the screens, IMax theaters and spectators in search of a great show. Suffice to say the public of Jumanji 3… Industry analysts were already predicting a terrible underperformance for Dwayne Johnson’s film, estimating that after its opening weekend, the film risked plunging against the two XXL competitors.

Rather than being crushed, the studio therefore chose not to go into confrontation. Jumanji 3 prefers to get around the obstacle and will settle in an area he knows well: the Christmas holidays. Not necessarily the best date on the calendar (people are busy with family and go to the cinema less) but a slot which is around ten days after the releases of Dune: 3 And Avengers: Doomsdaythis gives hope of riding the enthusiasm of the spectators. And for “Dunesday”, it will be a hell of a test: if the two films hold up at the US box office when another competitor comes out, then the phenomenon will be really solid. The confrontation promises to be biblical.

Jumanji 3 will bring back Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan. Alongside them, we will also find Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Lamorne Morris and Rhys Darby, while Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes join the adventure.

As director, Jake Kasdan returns after directing the two previous parts, on a screenplay co-written with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
