Bridgerton: the new couple of season 5 made official on video

It will be Francesca’s turn to take all the spotlight. And in a twist (compared to the novels), she will experience a great love story with Michaela Stirling…

Bridgerton continues to reinvent itself, and this season 5 could well be one of the most daring, exploring an unprecedented lesbian romance.

Netflix has lifted the veil on season 5 of Bridgerton and confirmed its new central duo: Francesca Bridgerton will be the star, and with her Michaela Stirling.

Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza will play the two women who will experience a burning passion at the English court. The platform unveiled a first teaser and announced the launch of filming in the United Kingdom for this new burst of eight episodes, still produced by Shonda Rhimes and adapted from the novels by Julia Quinn.

At the heart of this season 5: Francesca, the most discreet Bridgerton sister. Two years after the death of her husband John, the young Countess of Kilmartin decides to return to the marriage market, more out of reason than desire. But everything changes when Michaela, her late husband’s cousin, resurfaces in London to take care of the family estate. Netflix transforms the original story of the novels here: Michaela is in fact a feminized version of Michael Sterling, Francesca’s ultimate love in the books, thus offering a unique lesbian romance. The streamer details the characters below:

Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd): Countess of Kilmartin, reserved and contained, Francesca has always felt out of step with the world around her. As Michaela awakens new feelings within her, she begins an intimate journey that could change everything.

Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza): behind her charm and boundless energy, Michaela hides a great vulnerability and tends to flee as soon as discomfort arises. This season, she will have to face her emotions, between the inheritance left by her cousin and her relationship with Francesca.

Remember that, already in season 4, Francesca’s plot had initiated this turning point: the death of her husband John (Victor Alli) and her first rapprochement with Michaela announced this new dynamic. For her part, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) continued her rejection of the marriage market, while gradually opening up to this prospect, notably by observing the enthusiasm of her younger sister Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) at the idea of making her entry into the world…

This season 5 of The Bridgerton Chronicles will be released in 2027 on Netflix.
