Blair Witch will rise from the ashes with the Paranormal Activity team
Jason Blum and Blumhouse will resume the saga in what should be a remake of the original film.
A quarter of a century ago, The project Blair Witch revolutionized the horror genre with a “found footage” feature film, which would become the second highest-grossing film in history: $248 million in revenue for a budget of $60,000!
So Hollywood is still trying to revive the saga. After a failed first sequel Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows (in 2000) and a revival that went unnoticed, Blair Witch (in 2016), the franchise is poised to be reinvented for a new era. Lionsgate has announced that production company Blumhouse will attempt to remake the original, as part of a new deal with the studio, which seeks to “reinvent“the “horror classics” for which he has the licenses. In other words: making remakes of successful horror films.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chairman Adam Fogelson and Blumhouse Founder Jason Blum Announced the New Film Blair Witch Project at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week: “We are delighted to be able to play in this sandbox. I am a great admirer of Blair Witch Projectwhich introduced the idea of ”found footage horror” to the general public.said Jason Blum. “It has become a true cultural phenomenon. I don't think there would have been a Paranormal Activity if there had not been prior Blair Witch. So it’s a bit of a special project for me and I can’t wait to see what we do with it.”
Because Jason Blum founded Blumhouse in 2009 to Paranormal Activity, which became the highest-grossing film of all time with an initial budget of $15,000, grossing $193 million at the worldwide box office. Even stronger than The Blair Witch Project !
