Bong Joon Ho’s first animated film will be released in France in summer 2027
The director of Parasite introduces you to the adorable Ally.
After parasites, monsters and clones, Bong Joon Ho ventures into the depths of the Pacific.
The South Korean director is preparing his very first animated feature film, Allywhose French release is officially set for July 14, 2027. A new step for the Oscar-winning filmmaker from Parasitewho has been developing this project since 2019.
The synopsis states: “Ally, a small sea creature both curious and endearing, lives in the unexplored depths of the South Pacific. She dreams of one day seeing the sun and becoming the star of an animal documentary. But when a mysterious plane crashes into the ocean, her peaceful world is suddenly threatened. Accompanied by loyal and colorful, if unlikely, companions, Ally is drawn into an extraordinary journey that will take her to the surface.”
For this first foray into animation, Bong Joon Ho co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Yu, the director of Sleep. In production, Seo Woo-sik meets the filmmaker for the third time, after Mother And Okja.
The film is supported by a partnership between Pathé, CJ ENM and Penture Invest, who are joining forces for its financing and distribution. A project of international scope whose details still remain largely secret, starting with its vocal casting.
Ally will be released in France on July 14, 2027, while its South Korean release is also scheduled for July 2027.
