Cannes 2026: the winners of the Filmmakers’ Fortnight
I See the Buildings Fall Like Lightning, by Clio Barnard, wins the Audience Award.
The 2026 Filmmakers’ Fortnight ended in a daze… literally.
It is with Vertigonew animated UFO signed Quentin Dupieux, carried by Alain Chabat and Jonathan Cohen, which the famous parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival has closed the doors of its theaters. The film will be released in theaters on June 10. At the same time, the director also presented this year Full Phil in Midnight Session, with Kristen Stewart, Woody Harrelson and Charlotte Le Bon.
But it’s good I see the buildings falling like lightning by British director Clio Barnard, which was crowned at the Fortnight (created in 1969 under the name Directors’ Fortnight) and won the Audience Award. He succeeds The President’s Cake on the list. The story follows five friends. Five lives. Patrick, Shiv, Rian, Oli and Conor grew up in Birmingham. They played together, skipped school together, and dreamed of the future together. Today, they are thirty years old and are caught up in everyday life… No release date in France yet. Anthony Boyle (Masters of the Air) and Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders) are in the casting.
Two French productions also appear on the list: Shana by Lila Pinell, awarded the SACD Prize and expected in French cinemas on June 17, as well as The Explosive Species by Sarah Arnold, which leaves with the Europa Cinémas Label before a release scheduled for October 6.
