Heat 2: Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale will take over the roles of Val Kilmer and Al Pacino
After long months of negotiations, filming on the highly anticipated sequel to Heat is due to begin next November.
Nearly thirty years later HeatMichael Mann is about to start filming his sequel.
According to TheWrapLeonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale are about to complete their arrival in the casting of Heat 2filming of which is due to begin next November.
Christian Bale will play Vincent Hanna, the famous detective of the Los Angeles homicide squad played by Al Pacino in the original 1995 film. Leonardo DiCaprio will lend his features to Chris Shiherlis, the robber played at the time by Val Kilmer.
Adapted from the novel co-written by Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner, published in 2022, Heat 2 will act as both a prequel and a sequel, exploring events before and after those of the first film. Michael Mann will once again write the screenplay and direct.
The cast could still be expanded. Always according to TheWrapAdam Driver is in advanced negotiations to play the formidable Otis Wardell, the villain of the book, while Stephen Graham is expected to play a younger version of Neil McCauley, the character played by Robert De Niro in the original film.
Several actresses are also said to be in the running to take over the role of Sharlene, formerly played by Ashley Judd.
The project promises to be particularly ambitious. Filming must take place on several continents and the action scenes would be of an unprecedented scale. A source close to the production even describes them as “Spartacus with machine guns” or even “John Wick multiplied by a thousand”promising to surpass the famous shooting of Heatwhich over the years has become a reference even in the training of certain law enforcement agencies.
Note, however, that Amazon MGM Studios tempers this information: the studio assures that no contract has yet been officially finalized, even if the negotiations are now in their very final stretch.
