Daniel Brühl becomes Karl Lagerfeld: the trailer for the Disney Plus series

The rise of the famous German designer within the House of Chanel, in Paris of the 1970s and the fashion of the Saint-Laurent years.

It will be one of the television events of the beginning of the summer. Daniel Brühl will become Karl Lagerfeld in the new Disney Plus series, which today revealed its trailer. Historical drama in the Parisian fashion scene of the 70's, Becoming Karl Lagerfeld will tell how the despised German designer ended up finding a place within Haute… couture.

“In 1972, Karl Lagerfeld was 38 years old and was not yet wearing his famous ponytail. He was a ready-to-wear designer unknown to the general public. While he met the sulphurous Jacques de Bascher (Théodore Pellerin) , a young ambitious and disturbing dandy with whom he falls in love, the most mysterious of fashion designers will dare to measure himself against his friend (and nevertheless rival) Yves Saint Laurent (Arnaud Valois), genius of haute couture, supported by the formidable man of affairs Pierre Bergé (Alex Lutz)” teases the official synopsis. “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld plunges us into the heart of the 70s in Paris, Monaco and Rome to follow the tremendous emergence of this complex and iconic personality of Parisian couture, already driven by the ambition to become the Emperor of fashion.”

The series created by Isaure Pisani-Ferry and Jennifer Have is adapted from the best-seller “Kaiser Karl” by Raphaëlle Bacqué (published by Albin Michel). It was directed by Jérôme Salle and Audrey Estrougo. Personalities of fashion and culture who rubbed shoulders with Karl Lagerfeld at the time will make an appearance such as Jeanne Damas, who will play Paloma Picasso, and Claire Laffut, who will be Loulou de La Falaise.

Becoming Karl Lagerfeld will be available for streaming on June 7 on the Disney Plus platform.
