Why the Alien prequel series will skip Prometheus and Alien: Covenant
Showrunner Noah Hawley claims to have discussed it with Ridley Scott.
Scheduled according to the latest news for 2025, the series Alien by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion…) will take the form of a prequel to the original film. But how Prometheus And Alien: Covenant, which already take place in the past, will they be inserted into history? The showrunner simply decided to act as if these Ridley Scott feature films had not existed. At the radio microphone KCRW to promote season 5 of Fargo (on Canal+ from January 18 and which we highly recommend), Hawley explains having talked about it “ with Ridley, as well as many other elements of the series. For many people, this ‘perfect life form’ – as it is described in the first film – is the product of millions of years of evolution. This creature could well have existed for a million years in space. The idea that this is a biological weapon created half an hour ago is fundamentally less useful to me (as a screenwriter) “. Indeed, Prometheus And Alien: Covenant highlighted that the Engineers, an alien race, had developed xenomorphs shortly before the first film Alien.
And Noah Hawley also prefers to ignore the technology used in Prometheus and its sequel to focus on what spectators discovered at the cinema in 1979. ” There’s this retro-futuristic technology, giant computer screens, weird keyboards. I had to make a choice. In the prequel, Ridley used much more advanced technology than that of Alien (…) There is something in there that doesn’t make sense to me. I prefer the retro-futurism of the first two films, and that’s the choice I made; there are no holograms. I can’t use this wonderful technology from an Apple Store. »
The filming of the series Alien, interrupted by the screenwriters’ and actors’ strike, is due to resume soon. The cast includes Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, David Rysdahl, Samuel Blenkin and Adarsh Gourav.
Another movie, Alien: Romulusdirected by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe and the reboot ofevil Dead from 2013) will be released in cinemas on August 14.
