Daniel Radcliffe will be a prince in the new animated film from Netflix

After being the most famous wizard in cinema, the English actor will play a fairy tale prince in Steps.

Daniel Radcliffe trades his wizard’s wand for a crown. The star of Harry Potter will lend his voice to the prince in Netflix’s next animated film, Stepsan offbeat rereading of the tale of Cinderella.

Directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, the feature film chooses to tell the story from the point of view of Cinderella’s stepsisters, traditionally presented as the villains of the story.

The plot follows Lilith (Ali Wong), accused of causing chaos at the royal ball after stealing a magic wand. While trying to right her mistakes, she accidentally turns her sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu) into a frog and leaves the kingdom in the hands of a young woman obsessed with the prince. To save the situation, she will have to team up with… Cinderella (Amanda Seyfried) and a troll as strange as she is endearing.

The voice cast also includes Peter Dinklage, Young Mazino and Bette Midler, who will play the Fairy Godmother.

The directors explain that they wanted to break the codes of the traditional tale, starting with their prince.

We wanted our prince to be different from anyone we’ve ever seen. Daniel made this dream possible. He brought his very particular humor, full of heart, and created an irresistible character. We were amazed by his comic register.”

For Alyce Tzue, Steps is above all a story about those who have always had the impression of not having their place.

This film tells the story of two very different sisters who discover that they are more alike than they think. Growing up, I often felt alienated from my surroundings. I wanted to make a film for everyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong in the fairy tale.

The film is expected on the platform later this year.
