Eureka: Viggo Mortensen and Chiara Mastroianni in a mystical fresco (trailer)
Lisandro Alonso (Jauja) is interested in the daily lives of the inhabitants of a Native American reservation.
Alaina decides to impose a breaking point on her pace of life, as a police officer on the Pine Ridge reservation. Sadie, his niece, is waiting for his return. Accompanied by her grandfather, Sadie improvises a trip to South America and decides to boycott western films, which distort representations. In this journey, Saddie prepares to connect with the Native Americans of the forest, by perceiving their dreams. The fauna and flora seem to have some truths to transmit to him.
Lisandro Alonso (Jauja, Liverpool) creates this historical and mystical fresco, in the heart of a wild environment: “I wanted to create a link between the passage of time and the different peoples who have lived on this land since the very beginning, long before colonization.“
The filmmaker wanted to pay homage to these populations, chained to their geographical heritage, even if this implies a social sacrifice: the total indifference of the American population.
“I have documented a lot about the different Indian reservations in the United States and in particular that of Pine Ridge in South Dakota where, in 2017, I stayed for a few months. In this reserve, the population is abandoned. This is why there are only 23 police officers to meet the needs of the 50,000 inhabitants. Yet people chose to continue living there and fighting to get by, despite the indifference, even contempt, of the rest of the American population and younger generations.“
At the casting, Chiara Mastroianni, Alaina Clifford and Viggo Mortensen which signs a new collaboration with the filmmaker.
Eureka was presented Cannes Première at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. It will be available February 28 in the rooms.
