Ferrari: the biopic with Adam Driver finally has a release date in France
Michael Mann’s film will not be shown in the cinema box here.
The Enzo Ferrari biopic finally benefited from a cinema release in the United States, provided by the distributor Neon, at the end of December. In France, no turnaround. The film of Michael Mann will be released directly to streaming, as planned. And on the day of its VOD release across the Atlantic, Prime Video France finally reveals to us when we will be able to see Ferrari on our small screen: March 8.
Presented in Venice last September, Ferrari marks the return of the director of Heat9 years after the failure of Hacker. With Adam Driver in the role of the founder of this flagship of motor racing and luxury cars, Penelope Cruz in that of his wife Laura, and also Shailene Woodley, Sarah Gadon, Gabriel Leone, Jack O’Connel and Patrick Dempsey. A solid return, without being up to the height of Michael Mann’s heyday.
Ferrari has amassed $35 million in revenue worldwide for a budget of $95 million, and the director who will turn 81 in a few days will now have to convince a studio (or a streaming platform) to finance his next film, the Following Heat based on the novel he published last year. A project that is still hypothetical, but for which he could find Driver. Here is what Mann said last October:
“The idea is not to do exactly the same thing again. It’s a bit of a lottery. You want to reinvent these characters but that still requires certain qualifications. You have to be a great fucking actor to play McCauley (De Niro)! I think Adam Driver is a great actor, like De Niro. But who will Vincent Hanna (Pacino), who will Chris Shiherlis (Kilmer) be? Who can bring a breath of fresh air to these roles? It’s not the same dilemma I had with the film Miami Vice For example. In retrospect, I shouldn’t have called him Miami Vice Besides…”
