Florence Pugh replays East of Eden for Netflix: the trailer

70 years after James Dean, a new adaptation of the novel by John Steinbeck, which will be released in October on the platform.

While waiting to be reunited with Marvel’s Avengers in Doomsday, Florence Pugh replays her classics and tackles a monument of American literature.

She is the star of East of Eden, a new series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s famous novel, which unveils its majestic trailer today. We discover Cathy Ames, the unforgettable heroine of the novel, who meets and marries Adam Trask (Christopher Abbott), a young man who promises her a happy life. But behind his smile lies something much more worrying. And when Cathy is found lying on the ground, her face covered in blood, it’s hard to believe that this love story will end well. However, Cathy manages to regain control of her appearance and her life. We then find her elegantly dressed in a society living room, surrounded by men and women whose relationships seem to obey rules that are much less innocent than they seem.

“Evil is not always apparent at first glance. It can hide behind goodness, beauty or love,” Cathy warns in the trailer.

Adam’s brother, Charles (Mike Faist), however, seems to have understood who he is dealing with. “You need to get rid of her and chase her away. She’s going to tear you to pieces, and I don’t want to see that.” Enough to make Cathy the real antagonist of this new version of East of Eden?

The series intends to offer a different reading of John Steinbeck’s classic, by telling the saga of several generations of the Trask family while focusing for the first time to this extent on its antiheroine.

The series is written and co-directed by Zoe Kazan, whose link with the story of East of Eden is obviously strong: her grandfather, director Elia Kazan, signed the film adaptation of the novel in 1955 with James Dean.

This new version will consist of 7 episodes and will arrive on October 1 on Netflix in France.
