God of War hero gets injured: Prime Video must replace his Kratos

Hard blow for the God of War series. Injured during filming, Ryan Hurst will ultimately not be able to play Kratos.

Big setback for the series adaptation of God of War.

According to the American press, Ryan Hurst, who was to play Kratos in the Prime Video production, was forced to abandon the project after an injury sustained during filming.

However, the actor had already started filming sequences for the highly anticipated adaptation. Prime Video even revealed last February a first official image of Ryan Hurst in the skin of the famous Spartan warrior. But production was halted in June following his accident.

Amazon did not wish to comment on the information, first revealed by Deadline.

We don’t know the severity of the injury in question, but it definitely requires the replacement of Ryan Hurst! The producers are forced to recruit a new interpreter of Kratos and will have to reshoot scenes already filmed with him, in particular those shared with Callum Vinson, who plays his young son Atreus.

The rest of the cast includes Mandy Patinkin (Odin), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Thor), Ed Skrein (Baldur), Max Parker (Heimdall) and Alastair Duncan (Mimir).

Terrible for Ryan Hurst who already knew the God of War universe perfectly, he who lent his voice to Thor in the video game God of War Ragnarök.

Adapted from the last two games in the PlayStation saga, the series will follow Kratos and his son Atreus on their journey through the Nordic kingdoms. After the death of Faye, wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus, the two heroes undertake to scatter her ashes at the top of the highest mountain, while confronting the gods of Norse mythology. A journey which should also allow Kratos to learn to become a better father, while Atreus tries to make him… a better man.

Despite this halt, Prime Video hopes to resume filming by mid-fall, once the new Kratos has been found. The platform still firmly believes in its adaptation: even before production began, Amazon had already ordered two seasons of this ambitious series, developed by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander).

No release date yet. We imagine that we will have to be patient from now on…
