Grey’s Anatomy goes on strike to denounce ICE, the American immigration police
Medical drama staff join a national movement. Production is therefore put on standby for the entire day of Friday.
Always very engaged in issues that affect American society, Grey’s Anatomy goes further this time by going on strike!
The successful medical series temporarily interrupted its filming this Friday, January 30, echoing the call for a national mobilization for a “shutdown”, in order to denounce the actions of the American federal agency ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
The day without work, school or commerce was promoted by student groups at the University of Minnesota — including the Somali Student Association, the Black Student Union and the Graduate Labor Union — in response to a series of raids by U.S. immigration police that resulted in the deaths of two opponents.

According to sources close to production cited by the American press, many members of the Grey’s Anatomy production team have planned not to appear on set this Friday, in solidarity with the movement. Faced with this mobilization, the producers decided to postpone filming activities for season 22 for the day. Cameras should start rolling again this Saturday.
If for the moment Grey’s Anatomy is one of the few major productions to take a break in response to this action, the call for a “shutdown” has gained ground on social networks. Several cultural institutions in Los Angeles also announced temporary closures today.
