Guillermo del Toro: The Phantom of the Opera after Frankenstein?

The Mexican director has obviously already thought about his version of the French work by Gaston Leroux.

What other classic would the Mexican director want to adapt?

After his Pinocchio animated and the Frankenstein which comes out in a few days on Netflix, Guillermo del Toro confided which other legendary “creature” he would dream of revisiting. Interviewed by Reverse on the red carpet, the filmmaker did not hesitate for a second:

“The Phantom of the Opera… It’s such a classic story, but I would do it differently. I have a few ideas… but for now, I’m leaning towards thrillers and stop-motion animation.”

We feel that it’s an idea that he’s been working on and thinking about for some time.

It would therefore not be surprising to see Guillermo del Toro soon make his version of Phantom of the Opera, inspired by the cult work of Gaston Leroux published in France in 1910, and which tells the story of a disfigured musical genius living beneath the Paris Opera, obsessed with a young singer.

But it won’t be right away. Because the director’s next projects are already known. He is working in particular on Furya “very cruel, very violent” crime thriller, with Oscar Isaac in the cast. “I’m writing it right now. It’s a return to the spirit of Nightmare Alleybut drier, bloodier… a bit like My Dinner with Andreexcept that we kill someone after each dish!” describes Del Toro.
