HBO boss reveals Harry Potter series schedule: “late 2026 or 2027!”

“Here we go,” announces Casey Bloys, who gave the go-ahead for pre-production in recent days.

It is a long-term project for Warner Bros. and its HBO network. The series Harry Potter poses major challenges for the studio, which will take its time and do things step by step, as Casey Bloys explains today.

The head of HBO and the Max platform explains in an interview with Deadline that pre-production has begun. Writing and casting are underway.

“The writers have started working. Director Mark Mylod has also started his preparation. He’s putting together his team, they’re hiring department heads, and they’re starting casting. So here we go.”

A few days ago, the casting call from Warner Bros. Television in the UK for the next Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, was widely circulated. It stated that the young actors applying had to be between the ages of 9 and 11 in the spring of 2025. However, this date does not in any way mark the start of production according to Bloys: “We have not announced any dates yet. This does not necessarily mean a production start date.

It is difficult, for the moment, to mention any release date. But the boss of HBO nevertheless reveals the targeted slot: “It will be late 2026 or 2027. The writers are just starting, so it is too early to talk about a release date..”

Let us remember that Francesca Gardiner was hired as showrunner and writer. Mark Mylod was chosen to direct several episodes.
