“I missed this universe,” explains Dean DeBlois before revealing the casting of his actors, Mason Thames and Nico Parker, and explosive images from the shoot.

“On the wild island of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands out. The inventive but neglected son of leader Stoick the Vast, Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he bonds with friendship with Toothless, a fearsome Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons and calls into question the very foundations of Viking society…

While his accomplice Chris Sanders participates in the live version of Lilo & Stitch -but only as the voice of the hero, not in the direction- Dean DeBlois himself reimagines their Dragons for Dreamworks. Barelyfirst trailer revealedthe studio shares this behind-the-scenes video in which the filmmaker specializing in animation says he wanted to “revisit How to Train Your Dragonnot only for the incredible opportunity to make a live action film, but above all for the fact of diving back into this universe, which I had missed.”

14 years after the release of the original film, and 5 years after the end of the animated trilogy in the cinema, we discover the hiring of Mason Thames (revealed in the series For All Mankind and seen in Black Phone), who was chosen to play Harold, as well as that of Astrid’s interpreter, Nico Parker, crossed in The Last of Us. Touching images which are accompanied by a few shots of Toothless, obviously, whose design was designed as close as possible to its original version. The filmmaker also evokes the depth of the story, which will once again be at the heart of the film. Finally, we glimpse the filming of some explosive action scenes, notably in the arena where the dragons fight, before Harold meets the young Night Fury and manages to change the perception of these extraordinary creatures within his clan.

For this new version of DragonsGerard Butler returns to play the leader of Berk, Stoick the Vast. Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz and Murray McArthur complete the cast.

The live action of Dragons will be released precisely in France on June 11, 2025. Here is its trailer:
