The American box office is once again turned upside down this weekend by a big release. (source: Le Film Français)
If the American box office was at half mast at the start of the year, no film has managed to achieve real success since Wonkawith Timothée Chalamet, the exit of Dune 2 boosted revenues. Denis Villeneuve's blockbuster is going strong: it even doubled the final score of its eldest in less than a month in the world.
However, this second part is already no longer at the top of the US rankings. Recently dubbed by Kung Fu Panda 4this weekend it was overtaken by Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace, Sony's family comedy which opened to $45.2 million in 4,345 theaters. It's about the average of the two previous opuses:
– Ghostbusters grossed $13.6 million the weekend of its June 1984 release.
– Ghostbusters II raked in $29.5 million the weekend of its release in June 1989.
– Ghostbusters raked in $46 million on its release weekend in July 2016.
– Ghostbusters: Legacy raked in $44 million on its release weekend in November 2021.
Nearly 40 years after its release, the franchise Ghostbusters is therefore still in good shape. Besides, Dan Aykroyd tells us this month behind the scenes manufacturing in First : to know everything about “the saga that crosses generations”, meet at newsstands ! Then in French theaters from April 10 to discover this fifth opus.

Dune: part two is currently second in the ranking, with 17.6 million more greenbacks collected in 3,437 theaters, or 233 million domestically. Worldwide, the film crossed the $500 million mark, which suggests that Warner Bros. will soon formalize its third part, which Denis Villeneuve wants to adapt from Messiah of Dune, by Frank Herbert.
The new Dreamworks continues its good score with an additional 16.8 million dollars, or more than 100 million accumulated in three weeks in its country of origin. Po is still popular. I have to say that this return is very successful : here, it will be visible from this Wednesday in the cinema.
Immaculate And Arthur the King completes the top 5, with respectively 5.3 and 4.3 million dollars in revenue recorded in 2,354 and 3,003 American theaters. A nice score for the horror film with Sydney Sweeney, who is acclaimed for this role of a nun. This novelty does better than Late Night with the Devilwhich is 6th with 2.8 million amassed on 1034 screens.
Also note that if it is not in the top 10, Lucas, from Pixar Studios, was released this weekend in 1,390 American theaters. Available on Disney+ since 2021, the animated film earned $550,000, which gives it 13th place in the ranking.
