“It’s sublime”: Why The Savage Robot reminded Mark Hamill of the Star Wars adventure
Dubbing the new Dreamworks film brought back fond memories for the actor from a galaxy far, far away.
In the original version of the upcoming animated film from Dreamworks Studios, Mark Hamill double Thorn, one of the many animals that inhabit the island where the main character, a high-tech robot named Roz, is stranded. Far from home, but curious, she learns to communicate with the island’s inhabitants and ends up adopting their way of life. At the heart of this coming-of-age story, Roz frees herself from her programming, and finds herself in spite of herself with a young goose of which she becomes the surrogate mother. With the help of a mischievous fox, she intends to help it grow and fly on its own. But what happens when a robot stays in the wild too long?
The Wild Robot directed by Chris Sanders (Dragons, The Croods) revealed itself in a trailer as a film full of poetry, shimmering, with an almost pictorial animation. A promise of beauty and emotions, this experience revived excellent memories for the star actor of Star Wars.
Chris Sanders – The Wild Robot: “Dreamworks is the best place to do animation”
Besides the presence of a droid, what do this animated film and the intergalactic franchise have in common? Present last weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con, during the panel dedicated to the Wild Robot, alongside the director, Lupita Nyong’o who voices Roz and Kit Connor, who voices the young goose, the one who has played Luke Skywalker since 1977, highlighted the meticulous work of the teams on the film, and confided that the charm of this animated film reminded him of Star Wars.
“Just seeing it. It reminded me of the time I was trying to describe Star Wars to people who haven’t seen it. It’s sublime. It’s moving. It works on many levels. Kids will love it. The whole family will love it.”
As Star Wars is an intergenerational work, The Wild Robot wants to do the same. Young and old alike will certainly find something to relate to. With such a comparison, spectators are impatient to see the result.
Featuring the original voices of Pedro Pascal, Catherine O’Hara, Stephanie Hsu and Bill Nighy, The Wild Robot will be released in France on October 9.
