“It’s worth the wait!” Daisy Ridley teases Rey’s return to Star Wars
The British actress is not giving up and intends to see the sequel project come to fruition, despite the upheavals at Lucasfilm.
There has been a lot of commotion in the Galaxy far, far away in recent months.
Projects were abandoned, others put on hold, and a new trilogy was launched.
So when will we really see Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker again?
Not immediately a priori. First there will be several independent films: The Mandalorian & Grogu by Jon Favreau, scheduled for May 22, 2026, then Starfighter by Shawn Levy with Ryan Gosling, expected on May 28, 2027. We can also expect to see Dawn of the Jedi by James Mangold, which will take place 25,000 years in the past and is currently in development.
But Daisy Ridley does not give up and promises that Rey Skywalker will return one day in Star Wars. And she promises (via IGN) that the game is worth it:
“Honestly, there are scripts that I read five years ago, and now I’m like, ‘Maybe they’ll actually see the light of day.’ Over the years, I have understood how enormous the production of a film is. The obstacles are immense… But for this film, in particular, I know there are incredible voices and creatives involved, and I know it will be worth the wait.”
First introduced in 2015 in Star Wars: The Force AwakensRey was a Force-sensitive scavenger. Throughout the trilogy, she trains as a Jedi and triumphs over her grandfather, Emperor Palpatine. At the end of The Rise of Skywalkershe adopts the surname Skywalker.
Rey’s solo project dates back to 2022, with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directing and an initial script by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.
Steven Knight replaced the duo in March 2023, then left the project in October 2024, pushing filming back to 2025. As of January 2025, George Nolfi is the new screenwriter.
The film, still without an official title, should take place 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalkerwith Rey leading a new Jedi Order. But we don’t yet know if this project will be done as initially planned, or if it will integrate Simon Kinberg’s new trilogy…
