Japan faces a new catastrophe in Godzilla Minus Zero: new trailer

Two years after Godzilla Minus One, the legendary monster returns to ravage a Japan still scarred by war.

The nightmare begins again.

Godzilla is about to plunge Japan back into horror in the new trailer for Godzilla Minus Zerounveiled this weekend at New York Comic Con.

After the worldwide success of Godzilla Minus Onedirector Takashi Yamazaki takes back control of the franchise with a sequel that promises to once again test a country in the midst of reconstruction.

The story takes place in 1949, two years after the events of the previous film. Japan is still trying to recover from the ravages of war and Godzilla’s attack. But while the population is just beginning to return to normal life, a new threat destroys their hopes for peace.

The trailer notably features Kōichi Shikishima, the former kamikaze pilot played by Ryunosuke Kamiki, now married to Noriko, played by Minami Hamabe. She had miraculously survived Godzilla’s attack on Ginza. The couple also adopted a baby girl, Akiko. But their fragile family happiness risks being shattered in the face of this new danger.

Doctor Ogata, played by Jun Kunimura, also appears in these new images. He remembers the victims of the previous attack and mentions the case of Noriko: “The day Godzilla struck, hundreds of victims flocked to this hospital. I can say this with certainty: this patient…she should never have survived.”

The official synopsis states that “humanity had just won a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes and destroys all hope in an instant. There will be no third time. It all ends here.“

The pressure is on for Takashi Yamazaki, whose Godzilla Minus One won the Oscar for best visual effects in 2024.

Godzilla Minus Zero will be the first Japanese film in the saga to be released almost simultaneously in Japan, Europe and North America. Its release in Japan, on November 3, during “Godzilla Day”, celebrates the anniversary of the release of the original 1954 film. France will see cinema’s greatest kaiju burst into theaters the next day.

Godzilla Minus Zero will be released in theaters in the original Japanese version with French subtitles and in French version on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
