Sebastian Stan Prepares to Play Harvey Dent in The Batman 2: ‘What Shapes His Thinking?’ »

Met during the last Cannes Film Festival, the actor explains his method to put himself in the shoes of Two-Face.

After playing one of the main roles in the Palme d’Or Fjord by Cristian Mungiu (in theaters on August 19), Sebastien Stan will be starring in Avengers: Doomsday at the end of the year, where he will reprise the role of Bucky Barnes, then change creameries: he will be one of the rare actors to play at both Marvel and DC, since he will play the prosecutor Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, in The Batman 2 by Matt Reeves. While we met him at the Cannes Film Festival for the purposes of a portrait to read in the issue of Première currently on newsstands, with The Odyssey on the cover, we couldn’t resist the urge to ask Stan how he prepared to play such an important character in the Batman mythology.

“ No matter the subject and whatever the character, whether it’s a film with Christian Mungiu or Matt Reeves, you always have to get to the bottom of the truth. It means understanding what makes a person the way they are. What shapes his way of thinking? What is the world, the environment in which she grew up? It also includes her family background, her socio-economic level, as well as the city, place and time in which she is located. We must treat all of this with the same importance.e,” he assured us.

“ And it doesn’t matter if it’s a real person or a fictional character, you always have to do your research. So that’s what I do. And then at Marvel as at DC, all these characters are actually quite complex. I also think that – and sometimes people don’t realize it right away – that there is something mythological with comics. In any case, there is always a reason, whether the character is a good guy or a bad guy, which explains why he got there. And in my opinion, finding it is what has the strongest impact in interpretation. »

The release of The Batman 2 was recently pushed back to February 18, 2028 in the United States. Filming is currently underway.
