An Indian in the city: Mimi-Siku has become… bailiff!

More than thirty years after the release of the cult comedy, Ludwig Briand left the cinema for justice.

He hasn’t climbed the Eiffel Tower for a long time…

More than 30 years ago, France fell under the spell of a little Indian lost in the Capital.

In 1994, Mimi-Siku arrived in Paris for a clash of civilizations that would conquer the box office. Climbing monuments, hunting pigeons with a blowgun under the gaze of Maïtika, her tamed tarantula, cult replicas (“Wakatépé baboune”) and original soundtrack by Uncle David… Even today, An Indian in the City reeks of the cinema of the time.

To lead Patrick Timsit, Thierry Lhermitte, Arielle Dombasle and Miou-Miou, director Hervé Palud chose a young actor named Ludwig Briand, aged around twelve and who had made himself known in the musical comedy Les Miserableswhere he played Gavroche.

The film is a triumph, with nearly 8 million admissions in France. It will even be entitled to an American remake, An Indian in New Yorkworn by Tim Allen and Martin Short.

But this success will also become a burden for the young actor.

“The label of Mimi-Siku really stuck to me and the directors no longer wanted me to play”he confided to New Obs in 2014.

In 1995, Ludwig Briand landed another role in The Cave of the Golden Rosethe famous Italian fantasy saga directed by Lamberto Bava. Then he appeared in 1997 in the series One and one make sixalongside Pierre Arditi and Brigitte Fossey. After only six episodes, however, he chose to leave the series to resume his studies.

The boy then definitively turns his back on cinema. He began studying law, joining the National School of Grafts in Dijon.

Today, Ludwig Briand has completely changed register. In 2022, he successfully passed the competition for director of judicial registry services.

His former playing partner Thierry Lhermitte, who played his father in An Indian in the citygave his news a few days ago in Telematinon France 2.

“We continue to give each other news from time to time. Ludwig is Bailiff, he first replied about Ludwig Briand’s career, before correcting himself with a smile: “Maybe clerk now, I don’t know anymore… But bailiff!” Then conclude with humor: “So it’s Master Mimi-Siku!

As Uncle David sang : “To each his own…”.
