Nearly 2 million spectators have already seen The Odyssey in France

Ulysses, stronger than Mario and Michael! Christopher Nolan has had the best start of the year at the French box office with his Homeric epic.

The tidal wave of The Odyssey hits the French box office.

Unsurprisingly, Christopher Nolan’s epic takes the lead in the rankings for its first week of release. But more unexpectedly, his ancient epic has already attracted almost 2 million spectators in 758 theaters.

With precisely 1.85 million tickets sold, it is quite simply the best start of 2026, ahead of Super Mario Galaxy (1.81 million admissions last April) and ahead Michael (1.4 million). Note that the three behemoths are all distributed by Universal Pictures.

The enormous Homeric production logically displays excellent attendance indicators, with an average of 1,832 spectators per room and 107 admissions per screening, exceptional figures which confirm the event.

The Odyssey actually does much better than Oppenheimerwhich had a first week of 1.1 million curious people, in 2023 (finishing at 4.4 million).

Nolan is totally crushing the competition this week. Vacationers have even abandoned family films.

Second in the ranking, Vaiana: The Legend of the End of the World attracts nearly 500,000 additional spectators for its second week of operation. A drop of 40%, which brings its total to nearly 1.2 million entries. An honorable score, but half as good as that of Lilo & Stitchthe live remake which already had 2.6 million spectators at the same stage last year.

The two animation successes are resisting and continuing their mano a mano remotely, with attendance down by around 30% each:

Toy Story 5 thus crossed the milestone of 3.5 million entries after five weeks of operation, while Minions and monsters approaching 2.5 million spectators after four weeks.

The best outfit of the week, however, goes to The Battle of Gaulle.

I write your namesecond part of Antonin Baudry’s diptych, recorded a small drop in attendance of only 11% of its audience. After 4 weeks, it’s strong. With these results combined with those of The Iron Agethe historical fresco now has nearly 3.5 million entries in France.

Conversely, the crash continues for Supergirl. The DC film only attracted a little over 50,000 new spectators in its third week and is still struggling to convince. Its total still does not exceed 500,000 admissions, confirming its failure in French cinemas.
