John Goodman joins season 3 of The Last of Us

Ian Alexander and Laura Bailey, who voiced Lev and Abby in the video game, will also be in the cast of the next season.

John Goodman arrives in the universe of The Last of Us.

The former patriarch of The Flintstones and bowler of The Big Lebowski joins season 3 of the HBO series, will play Joey. Alongside him, Ian Alexander who voiced Lev in the video games will play Paco. Joey and Paco are two men who form a friendly duo who call themselves the “Heroes of the Highway”.

Laura Bailey, who lent her voice to Abby on consoles, will play Elizabeth, one of the leaders of the Seraphites, the religious sect which occupies an important place in Abby’s story.

Note that in the series, Lev is played by Kyriana Kratter and Abby by Kaitlyn Dever.

HBO had already adopted this strategy with Merle Dandridge and Jeffrey Wright, who took over in live action the characters they had dubbed in the games, Marlene and Isaac. Ashley Johnson, the voice of Ellie in the games, also appeared in the season 1 finale as Ellie’s mother.

The precise plot of this third season still remains secret, but it should continue the adaptation of The Last of Us Part II and in particular develop Abby’s arc, in which the Seraphites play a major role. Craig Mazin, already showrunner alongside Neil Druckmann for the first two seasons, is now alone in charge after Druckmann’s departure.

Season 3 is expected in 2027 and could be the last of the HBO series.
