481 million views… Produced by Sony Pictures Animation, KPop Demon Hunters broke all Netflix records.

More than a buzz, more than a phenomenon, the feature film directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans marked the history of streaming.

Nominated for the Oscars in the category of best animated film and best original song, it has a good chance of finishing its run with two statuettes on the mantelpiece…

And just before the ceremony, Netflix announced KPop Demon Hunters 2.

The streaming giant and Sony have confirmed to Variety the news after months of speculation. A release date is even already planned for 2029.

In addition, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will be back at the helm. The Korean-American duo is also very enthusiastic about the idea of ​​this next part and says “very excited to write the next chapter (of their characters), to put them to the test and to see them evolve.”

For his part, the president of Netflix Films, Dan Lin, congratulates the directors for having been “courageous enough to take a creative risk by telling a story that is both very personal and breaks cultural boundaries” before adding: “at Netflix our goal is to succeed in making what will be someone’s favorite film”.

KPop Demon Hunters is indeed inspired by Korean culture. Its creator confides: “I feel immense honor as a Korean director that the audience is so enthusiastic about this very Korean story with its very Korean characters.”

The plot of KPop Demon Hunters 2 has not yet been revealed.
