Léa Seydoux will live a crazy story with Bill Murray in The Quiet Land

The new film by Ursula Meier, the director of L’Enfant d’en Haut, will be a thriller tinged with romance, which will be shot next year in Canada.

A new prestigious collaboration for Léa Seydoux!

The French star, currently starring in An Unknownwill opposite Bill Murray in The Quiet LandUrsula Meier’s next film.

The Franco-Swiss director, to whom we owe in particular The Child from AboveSilver Bear at the 2012 Berlinale, will begin filming next fall in Alberta, Canada, where the landscapes will be used to recreate Montana.

Presented as a detective film, The Quiet Land will also, and above all, be a love story. A rather unexpected mix of genres for Ursula Meier, who describes her project in Variety as “ua police investigation, a love story and above all a very personal emotional journey towards oneself. A meditation on what remains of us when we are gone.“

Legend Bill Murray will play Connor McCluskey, a Montana Highway Patrol officer who loses his job after a medical evaluation. While investigating two fatal accidents, he becomes convinced that these events are not as accidental as they seem. He will then seek to protect an elderly woman living in the region.

Léa Seydoux will play the mysterious woman he seeks to protect. Ursula Meier also promises to go “very far in the love story”leaving the mystery surrounding the exact nature of their relationship and the possible age difference between the two characters.

To construct her story, the director was inspired by Swiss police photographer Arnold Odermatt, who spent more than forty years immortalizing road accidents in black and white film photography. By observing his photos and imagining “the accident scenario” hidden behind each image, Meier has developed a story with claimed influences from Blow-Up And Memento.

The film will also benefit from a prestigious technical team. The director of photography Agnès Godard, long-time collaborator of Claire Denis, will be behind the camera, while the editing will be handled by Nelly Quettier, loyal editor of Leos Carax.

The filming of The Quiet Land is scheduled for fall 2027 in Alberta. No release date yet.
