Matt Reeves’ Batman Arkham series is part of the DCU, announces James Gunn
This project joins the sequel to The Batman and the Penguin series, supervised by Reeves.
James Gunnscreenwriter, director and now co-president of DC Studio alongside Peter Safranconfirmed on Threads the development of a series Arkham which is part of both the continuity of The Batman and in the DCU. This series is led by Matt Reevesthe director of the last Dark Knight film with Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The director’s schedule looks busy as he is also developing the sequel to The Batman and serves as executive producer on the series centered on the character of the Penguin, played by Colin Farrell in the movie. James Gunn specifies that the two series will be part of the DCU imagined as an extended universe with other projects like Creature Commandos, Superman: Legacy Or Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. However, The Batman: Part II will not be directly attached to the DCU and remains independent as Joker and its sequel Joker: Folie à deux.
The Batman 2: filming would be postponed until 2024
“We love Matt as a director and producer so he will produce stories both in the universe of The Batman and in the DCU”, writes Gunn on Threads. No other information reveals what this series will look like Arkham. In Batman mythology, Arkham is the mental asylum of Gotham City, in which several supervillains enemies of the Dark Knight, including the Joker, are locked up.
It was in this asylum that the twisted romance between the Clown Prince of Crime and psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel was born, who would become the very famous Harley Quinn. Will she be in the series? In any case she will appear as Lady Gaga in Joker: Folie à deuxin cinemas October 2, 2024
