Mel Gibson has completed the sequel to The Passion of the Christ

The director wrapped production in Rome last week.

It is Mel Gibson’s biggest success. More than Lethal Weapon 3 And Braveheart reunited!

After grossing $620 million at the worldwide box office, The Passion of Christ will have its sequel. After years of chaotic development, The Resurrection of Christ (Parts 1 and 2) is completed. Mel Gibson has completed the filming of his diptych as evidenced by images posted online.

Long delayed, the project is now entering its post-production phase. Filming has wrapped up in Italy, with recent videos confirming the end of filming. The release strategy is now set for 2027: the first part is scheduled for March 26, and the second for May 6. The first part will be released on Good Friday, the second on Ascension Day.

On the casting side, big change: no return of the actors from the original film. Jaakko Ohtonen will play Jesus, 20 years after Jim Caviezel who played the role in the first film in 2004. He will be surrounded by Mariela Garriga (Mary Magdalene), Pier Luigi Pasino (Peter), Kasia Smutniak (Mary), Riccardo Scamarcio (Pontius Pilate) and Rupert Everett (Abraham).

But the most intriguing remains the direction taken by Gibson. The director has already warned: it will not be a simple linear sequel: “To properly tell this story, we must begin with the fall of the angels. It means going somewhere else, to another kingdom. You have to go to hell” he explained, promising in passing “Completely crazy things.”

Suffice it to say that this resurrection could take a much more mystical and radical turn than many already imagine…
