Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver will finally make a movie together
Incredible but true: the two actresses have never worked in any joint project.
She was doing Alien while she was doing Kramer vs. Kramer. She played with Gorillas in the Mist while she was leaving Out of Africa. Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver both had exceptional careers, particularly in the 1980s. And yet, they never played together. This anomaly of the 7th art will soon be repaired.
The film will be called Useful Idiotsand behind the camera, we find Joseph Cedar, director of Footnote And Beaufort. A New York political thriller, with these two sacred monsters face to face.
Meryl Streep – three times Oscar winner – will play Diane Castle, a veteran journalist, a respected but tired figure. She covers the luxury real estate market in New York, those above-ground apartments reserved for those with their own elevator and a six-zero bank account. She is bored writing articles glorifying the ultra-rich, with this dull feeling of not having achieved everything she was capable of. Until the day a file lands on his desk: the record sale of a penthouse even more absurd than the others. She starts asking questions. Who buys? For what ? And above all: why does everyone seem to want to cover up the affair? Her research leads her to an oligarch as invisible as he is influential, protected by a network of lawyers and a brilliant young strategist…
Sigourney Weaver – three times nominated for the Oscars without ever winning – should embody one of the centerpieces of this cynical mechanism which protects the powerful.
Joseph Cedar co-wrote the script with Shachar Bar-On, producer of the cult American political show,60 Minutes.
For now, Useful Idiots has no release date.
