Miami Vice in danger? Michael B. Jordan allegedly became too greedy after his Oscar
The Sinners star is reportedly asking for double Austin Butler’s fee to star in the remake.
Michael B. Jordan changed his status by being crowned best actor at the 2026 Oscars, notably against Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio, for his role in Sinners by Ryan Coogler. The success of the film had already confirmed its value at the box office, but with this award the 39-year-old star’s rating has climbed further.
According to insider Jeff Sneider (reported by World of Reel), the golden statuette would have whetted the appetite of Jordan and his agent. The latter advised him to wait for the Oscars to finalize negotiations for his participation in the remake of Miami Vicedirected by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, F1: the film). And after his victory, he would now like a bigger salary.
According to Sneider’s source, Michael B. Jordan is asking $18 million to reprise the role of Ricardo Tubbs played by Jamie Foxx in Michael Mann’s film. That’s about double what Austin Butler would get for playing Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrel). Knowing that Kosinski would like to hire Tom Cruise to play the villain, the budget risks going through the roof.
World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy estimates that could mean nearly $50 million in fees alone for its three stars. Universal Pictures, which has officially dated the release of this new Miami Vice as of August 6, 2027 (in the United States), will he accept such salary demands?
Michael B. Jordan has proven on several occasions that he has the ability to massively attract audiences in theaters. Besides the Marvel blockbuster Black Panther (1.3 billion in revenue), he was the headliner of the trilogy Creed whose third part (which he also directed) was the biggest success despite the ousting of Sylvester Stallone. And Sinners was a real box office phenomenon with 370 million dollars collected worldwide, a very impressive score for an original film not from a franchise.
After Sinnerslast year he filmed another remake, that of The Thomas Crown Affairwhich he directed in addition to playing the title role. Adria Arjona, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, Ruth Negga, Aubrey Plaza and Kenneth Branagh complete the cast of the film, currently in post-production, scheduled for release in March 2027.
