Miraculous will be transformed into a live-action series
Ladybug and Cat Noir will leave animation for a series with real actors, produced by See-Saw Films, the studio behind Slow Horses and Heartstopper.
After successfully trying the cinema experience (1.5 million admissions in France), Ladybug and Cat Noir will dare to transform it into live shots!
Miraculous will come to life for good in a live-action adaptation. At the helm is See-Saw Films, the production company behind Slow Horses and Heartstopper, which is partnering with Miraculous Corp to develop this new series.
The two companies, which belong to the Mediawan group, will co-produce the project. The goal is to reach a broader, older audience, while remaining true to the franchise’s huge fan community.
Ten years after its debut on French television, the Sunday morning cartoon will therefore take a new step.
British Emme Hoy, screenwriter and co-executive producer of season 2 of Sweetpea, the thriller series broadcast on Sky and Starz, will write this adaptation. She also worked on the upcoming BBC spy series Honey.
Maria Nicholson, executive producer at See-Saw Films, justifies this move to live-action which will inevitably give a more dramatic aspect to the French cartoon: “Miraculous has always been, at heart, a story about the distance between what we are and what we let others see of us. Live-action gives us the space to really feel that, to let the emotions breathe and hurt.”
She also promises a series combining “the emotional intimacy of a great love story with the scale of a true superhero epic”.
It remains to be seen who will play Marinette and Adrien.
