Monia Chokri under the influence of Niels Schneider: trailer for If you think well

Géraldine Nakache’s drama presented last May at Cannes Première is revealed.

After All that glitters, We York And I will go where you goGéraldine Nakache changes register for her fourth feature film as director, and the first without Leïla Bekhti. With If you think wellshe signs a real drama, carried by Monia Chokri and Niels Schneider (reunited 16 years later Imaginary Loves by Xavier Dolan), about everyday violence within a couple.

Synopsis: In Dubai, Gil meets Jacques. Their love at first sight leads to a hasty marriage which quickly reveals a deep divide: Gil does not share her husband’s all-consuming faith. Jacques tries to submit her to his vision of the world with a mantra that sounds like a threat.

In the press kit for the film, the filmmaker presents her note of intent:

I wanted to highlight the silent, hidden and deadly violence within a couple, which manifests itself in the intimate sphere, on a daily basis. This violence, which operates insidiously in the shadows of domestic spaces, constitutes a blind spot, a very real social fact, but little represented. As a woman and a director, I felt the need to highlight, in a fiction for the cinema, this spider’s web that the influence weaves, and the state of confusion into which it plunges the women within the couples concerned.

Clémentine Célarié, Christian Benedetti and Mina Kavani complete the cast of If you think wellin cinemas on September 16. Trailer:
