Severance: when will season 3 be filmed?

Apple, which bought the rights to the series to produce itself with Apple Studios, is waiting for all the scripts to be ready before rolling the cameras.

A year ago, season 2 of Severance ended. But season 3 is not for tomorrow!

Deadline reveals that Apple hopes to “start filming this summer.”

But even this timetable remains provisional and will depend on the completion of the scenarios. The authors have already finalized six scripts for season 3, laid the foundations for episode 7 and are continuing to write the following ones. Executive producer and director Ben Stiller and creator-showrunner Dan Erickson want to complete all of the scripts before entering production in order to avoid the costly interruptions or reshoots that disrupted season 2.

It should be noted that Apple bought Severance and all the rights associated with Fifth Season for an amount estimated at just under $70 million (as with Silo previously acquired from AMC Studios). Now the series will be produced by Apple Studios in-house, which gives Apple TV greater budgetary flexibility and increased control over the filming schedule.

Season 2 of Severance had experienced serious complications: production shutdown for eight and a half months due to Hollywood strikes, changes in the writers’ room and costly reshoots. These difficulties pushed Fifth Season to seek financial support before transferring the rights to Apple.

The new season will be directed by Kogonada, already producer-director on Pachinko. Apple is currently aiming for a four-season narrative arc, leaving Stiller and Erickson to decide whether to do a fifth or expand the universe via prequels and spin-offs.

Filming will once again take place in New York, where the production benefits from tax advantages, while Fifth Season will continue to earn production fees.

In the meantime, season 3 of Severance risks making us wait until the end of 2027. At best. Remember that we had to wait three years between seasons 1 and 2.
