Shrek’s Donkey will get his own movie in 2028

After Puss in Boots, it is the turn of the most talkative of the inhabitants of Fort Fort Lointain to take the light. DreamWorks is preparing a spin-off entirely dedicated to the green ogre’s four-legged companion.

After four Shrek (while waiting for the fifth) and the two films dedicated to Puss in Bootsthe universe of the green ogre continues to expand. Universal and DreamWorks have just announced the start of construction on donkeya feature film centered on the faithful companion of the green ogre (the French title is not yet known).

The film is even already dated: donkey will be released in cinemas on June 30, 2028.

Unsurprisingly, Eddie Murphy will reprise his cult role and will once again lend his voice to the character (in original version). We will recall that the French voice, that of Mel Hondo, Murphy’s official vocal double for us, died in 2019. We do not yet know who will replace him in the next Shrek 5 and therefore in this new derivative film.

This time, the donkey will no longer be a simple foil: he will be the hero of his own adventure.

According to initial information, donkey will take the form of an origin story and will tell the story of the donkey’s youth, or how the little equine became this funny creature gifted with speech.

Behind the camera, we will find Charlie Bean, director of The Great Lego Adventure: Ninjago and the live action version of Lady and the Tramp. The style should be neat, since it’s Matt Flynn, story artist on The Wild Robot, Puss in Boots 2: The Last Quest And The Bad Guys 2who will serve as co-director.

The production is entrusted to Rebecca Huntley, who notably worked on Kung Fu Panda 4 And The Bad Guys.

Remember that a year before donkeythe studio will release Shrek 5in cinemas on June 30, 2027 in France.

To date, the 6 films in the franchise have already grossed more than $3 billion at the global box office.
