The teen movie Aquamarine extended to series, Emma Roberts returns

Twenty years after the mermaid epic of the 2000s, the cult film will be reborn in the form of a series for Disney+.

Twenty years after the cult film of the 2000s, Aquamarine is preparing to make its return… on television. Disney+ and Disney Channel have just ordered a pilot for a series adapted from the feature film released in 2006.

And good news for nostalgic fans: Emma Roberts, who played Claire Brown in the original film, will reprise her role for an appearance and will also serve as executive producer.

Released in 2006, Aquamarine told the story of the friendship between two teenage girls and a young mermaid washed up on the beach, played by Sara Paxton, alongside Emma Roberts and JoJo. The film has since become a little classic of the fantasy teen movie of the 2000s.

This new version will follow Coral, a teenager who moves to a charming coastal town and gradually discovers the truth about her mother’s disappearance. She then learns that she was a mermaid, awakening magical powers in her at the moment when dangerous secrets buried beneath the waves resurface.

At the helm of this reboot is Sarah Watson, creator of The Bold Type, while Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, director of the original film, will direct the pilot and will also be executive producer.
