Stephen King’s grandson joins season 2 of It: Welcome to Derry

Ethan King joins the writing team of the HBO series, adapted from the universe of It. A first professional experience for the descendant of the master of horror, who will follow in the footsteps of his famous grandfather.

The King family is not done with Derry.

Ethan King, Stephen King’s grandson, has just joined the writing team for season 2 of It: Welcome to Derry.

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane confirmed the news in an interview with Radio Times:

“King’s grandson, Ethan, is writing in for Season 2. He’s brilliant and really smart. He’s all his grandfather. You understand why the Kings are the way they are. It’s clearly passed down from generation to generation.”

According to ScreenRant, Ethan King has no published writing credits to date.

This second season will therefore mark his professional debut in the field. However, he will not be the first member of the family to follow in the footsteps of the author of It. His father, Joe Hill, son of Stephen King, also made a name for himself in literature and comics, notably with Locke & Key, adapted into a series by Netflix.

Adapted from the novel It, published by Stephen King in 1986, It: Welcome to Derry takes place before the events of the films It (2017) and It: Chapter 2 (2019). The first season, launched in October 2025, plunged viewers into the 1960s, in the heart of this small town in Maine haunted by an evil presence. For its second season, the series will go back in time again, to 1935, in the middle of the Great Depression. The plot will focus on the massacre of the Bradley gang, a group of bank robbers whose arrival in Derry will quickly turn into a nightmare…

No broadcast date has yet been announced for season 2 of It: Welcome to Derry.
