Donald Glover’s next series will be a video game adaptation

After Atlanta and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the former Troy from Community, is tackling the world of video games. Netflix is developing a live-action series adapted from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).

Donald Glover will bring down players in the arena.

The actor, rapper, screenwriter and director is attached to a live-action adaptation of PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds), the popular battle royale game. Netflix is currently developing the project, which should mark the Atlanta star’s next big television appearance.

And Donald Glover doesn’t just plan to play the leading role. He will also write the series with his brother and faithful collaborator Stephen Glover. The two men will be executive producers, while Donald Glover also plans to go behind the camera to direct certain episodes.

LV3H, the entertainment division of game publisher Krafton, will also participate in the production.

Released in 2017, PUBG is one of the pioneers of the battle royale phenomenon. The principle is simple: dozens of players are dropped onto a map full of weapons, vehicles and various equipment. Their goal? Be the last survivor. The game therefore does not have a real pre-established plot, which leaves great freedom to the writers to imagine an original story.

For the moment, Netflix is keeping the details of this adaptation a secret. It is still unknown which character Donald Glover will play and in which direction the Glover brothers intend to take this universe.

Nearly ten years after its launch, PUBG remains one of the most popular games in the world, with hundreds of thousands of active players every day.

No filming or broadcast date has yet been announced for this adaptation of PUBG.
