First day box office: Moulin gets off to a good start
With more than 85,000 admissions (including previews), the film by László Nemes is ahead of the other new releases on Wednesday, while Dad, where are you? creates a surprise with a particularly high average per room.
This is one of the great historical films of the end of the year.
Distributed by TF1 Studio in 470 theaters, Mill accumulated 86,000 entries after its first day of operation, including 46,777 from Wednesday sessions alone. A good start, largely supported by nearly 40,000 spectators in previews, which propelled the film to the top of the new releases.
A very interesting launch, which places it ahead Our Salvation which had more than 60,000 spectators in 356 theaters (including AVP) after its first day at the end of September, while Rays and shadowsreleased on 430 screens, had 35,000 spectators at the end of its first day (including 13,000 AVPs) last February.
The Phantom of the Opera don’t hide
In second place, but far behind, The Phantom of the Operathe new version by Alexandre Castagnetti carried by Romain Duris, brings together nearly 35,000 spectators, including 11,000 in preview. Distributed by SND in 535 theaters, the film also had an honorable launch.
A documentary on the podium, Hope in the background
The surprise comes from Dad where are you?. The documentary by Basile Monnot and Samy Bouyssié is approaching 35,000 admissions, including previews, with only 165 theaters. Enough to display a remarkable average (114) which allows him to climb onto the podium of Wednesday’s new releases.
Conversely, Hope struggles to transform its Cannes buzz into entries. Na Hong-jin’s Korean science fiction film attracted just under 20,000 spectators, including previews, in 194 theaters and only debuted in fourth place in this Wednesday’s new releases ranking. It’s still much more than the director’s last feature: in 2016, The Strangers had attracted 3,300 spectators before ending its French career with around 70,000 admissions.
Finally, starting is more delicate for Sanguine. Marion’s French genre film The Corroller, with Mara Taquin and Karin Viard, only debuted in seventh place in the ranking, with around 6,000 admissions in 118 theaters, including previews.
