Universal is finally remaking the cult Wicked poster, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande
A new visual that should delight fans of the musical.
Wickedthe first part of which will be released on November 27 (and its sequel at Christmas 2025) is the cinema adaptation of one of the biggest hits in the history of musicals. A prequel to Wizard of Oz (itself adapted from a 1995 novel reimagining the classic by L. Frank Baum), recounting the youth of the “Wicked Witch of the West” Elphaba before she became a real villain. Its name is also taken from its creator: El (for L.), Pha (from Frank) and Ba (from Baum). The plot revolves around his family, his youth and his friendship with Glinda, before they were enemies, long before Dorothy arrived. The music and lyrics are by Stephen Schwartz, one of the greats of Broadway, who is also famous for his songs from Hunchback of Notre Dame And The Prince of Egypt.

Jon M. Chu (Sexy Dance 3D, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, In The Heights…) took on this great Broadway classic, and it brought together Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey and Jeff Goldblum. However, despite the popularity of the show which has been running for more than 20 years, the team responsible for promoting the film has so far distanced itself from the original show. Of course, the witch is all green, like her model, and her roommate is very blonde and full of life, but in the teasers, we barely hear Schwartz’s cult tunes, re-set to music by John Powell (Dragons) for the occasion.
As for the posters proposed by Universal, until now they have not really taken advantage of an image that all fans have in mind: a portrait of Elphaba smiling under her witch’s hat, while her accomplice whispers a secret to her. ear.
