Documentary filmmaker Errol Morris traces the thrilling life of the spy who became a successful author.
The pigeon tunnel is the new creation of the documentary maker Errol Morrisrecognized for his films on American political figures and awarded several times, notably with The Fog of War won the Oscar for best documentary in 2004.
In this docu coming to Apple TV+, Morris recounts the extraordinary life of David John Moore Cornwell, better known as John le Carré. After having been an agent at MI5 and MI6, John Le Carre has become a real machine bestsellernotably by publishing The spy who came in from the cold (1963), A pure spy (1986) and The Gardener’s Constancy (2000). The film takes the title of the novelist’s autobiography, The pigeon tunnel: stories from my life (Edition, 2016).
The pigeon tunnel is based on a long, intimate interview with John Le Carré, alternated with reconstructions of the spy-novelist’s life. He talks about his enlistment in the secret services, the transition to his career as a writer and promises to answer the questions “as sincerely as possible”.
