“Stormwind 2? Oh my God!” Why there won’t be a sequel

Director Emerald Fennell reacted with humor to the idea of continuing her adaptation of the novel Wuthering Heights.

Emily Brontë’s novel is dense. Over several generations. And to adapt is to choose.

Director Emerald Fennell signs with Stormwind his vision of the novel Wuthering Heightswhich is obviously not exhaustive.

Thus, when asked by ScreenRant about the idea of going through with the adaptation, by making a second film, she responded with humor:

“Oh my God. Can you imagine Stormwind 2? More Heights, more Stormwind!”

A clear way to nip any speculation in the bud.

The filmmaker then explains that Emily Brontë’s original work is simply too dense to be told in full on film.

“This book is so complex, so epic, and it takes place across generations,” she emphasizes, adding that a complete adaptation would rather require a mini-series, or even a season of around ten episodes. Or you do what I did: you create your own vision for the book.”

His choice has therefore always been assumed: to offer a personal interpretation rather than an exhaustive version.

Spoiler alert! His film thus ends with the death of Catherine and Heathcliff’s grief, leaving aside the entire second generation, which is central to the 1847 novel. In the original text, Cathy gives birth to a daughter with the same first name, while Heathcliff has a son with Isabella. The plot then continues with these children – Cathy, Linton and Hareton – whose destinies intertwine, until a conclusion marked by a form of appeasement and reparation.

The 2026 version, worn by Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, focuses exclusively on the passionate relationship between Cathy and Heathcliff.

Stormwind is currently on view in theaters.
