Stormwind and GOAT are struggling at the US box office
Meanwhile, Glen Powell crashes on takeoff with his dark comedy produced by A24.
Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi dominated the Valentine’s Day weekend against GOAT – dream higher. This week, the new adaptation of Stormwind must bow to the animated film produced by NBA star Steph Curry, with 17 million dollars in revenue compared to 14 million for Emerald Fennel’s dark romance.
Stormwind on the other hand wins the international match, totaling 151 million dollars since its release, against 102 million for GOAT. Both films cost $80 million to produce, but the marketing budget for the first was clearly larger with the worldwide promotional tour provided by its star couple.
Behind, the new developments have been discreet. On the third step of the podium, we find I Can Only Imagine 2the sequel to the biopic about the Christian singer of MercyMe, behind the biggest hit of the genre. The film grossed 8 million dollars for its first weekend, which is half as much as the original but very decent for a budget estimated at 18 million.
The final heir (How to Make a Kill in VO) completely missed its start. The black comedy from A24 with Glen Powell and Margaret Qualley, although offered on only 1,600 copies, must be content with 3.5 million dollars in revenue. The film, which will be released in France on March 25, will have had difficulty repaying its budget of 40 million.
Nice score on the other hand for the unpublished Elvis Presley concert unearthed by Baz Luhrmann. EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert takes full advantage of its limited IMAX release to gross 3.2 million and take 7th place at the North American box office. We will be able to see it in French cinemas from this Wednesday.
Blockbuster season hasn’t started yet, and Scream 7 should wake up the box office next weekend, followed in March by the new Pixar, Jumpersand the Maggie Gyllenhaal film derived from Frankenstein, The Bride!while waiting for the release of Super Mario 2 in April.
