Stranger Things: “Seasons 4 and 5 form one giant film”
The Duffers tell us their secrets in the new Special Edition Premiere, dedicated to Stranger Things, which is out on newsstands today. Hawkins Forever!
It’s the end-of-year event on the small screen.
The conclusion of Stranger Things marks the end of an era, one that saw Netflix grow and become one of the major leaders in global entertainment. If the red N can buy Warner Bros. today, it’s a bit thanks to Stranger Things!
So to celebrate Eleven and her farewell with great fanfare, Première has concocted a Special Edition magazine entirely dedicated to Hawkins and the upside down world. A special issue coming out today on newsstands and on our online store, in which the Duffer brothers tell us everything about the conception of their work, from the origins to the grand finale, season after season.
During the long interview they gave to Première, Matt and Ross explain to us, for example, that they “thought about seasons 4 and 5 during the pandemic. We had a lot of time, so we worked on the two seasons simultaneously or almost. And so they really form a whole! If you see each season as a film, seasons 4 and 5 form a single giant film! Perhaps the longest film ever made!”
They also admit to us that they never really planned to give more space to Holly, Mike and Nancy’s little sister, who suddenly moved from the Wheelers’ wallpaper to the forefront of season 5:
“I understand that it might have surprised people… Even for us it was a surprise. It was not at all planned for a long time…”
They actually explain that they had this desire to “return to the roots of the series” when saying goodbye, “namely the disappearance of a child. Holly is more or less the same age as our young heroes in season 1 and we wanted to once again capture the childish spirit of the beginning of the series through her. Because we can’t anymore with Will, Mike and the others. It would have been illusory to insist and try at all costs to get back to it with them. So we tried to introduce a new generation…”
Precisely, throughout this special Upside Down issue – which can be read both upside down and upside down – you will also find a touching meeting with the four boys from Hawkins, who tell us how they grew up through the series. And also decryptions, secrets, portraits, a quiz, a poster and many other things. But zero spoilers on the latest episodes of Stranger Things!
Moreover, when we asked the Duffers if Dustin is right in season 4, when he suggests that Vecna is in fact only the four-star general of the Mind Flayer and that, therefore, this Mind Flayer is the real ultimate boss of Stranger Things, they answer us:
“It’s a good theory… (laughs) But you’ll have to watch the end of season 5 to find out!” With the HS Première next door.
