Supergirl: two actresses took a test in front of James Gunn in Atlanta
The heroine will appear in Superman: Legacy before her solo film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The two bosses of DC Studio James Gunn And Peter Safran, responsible for making a clean slate and initiating a whole new timeline for this universe, presided over the first attempts to cast the actress who will play Supergirl. Two young stars were selected according to the Hollywood Reporter : Milly Alcock And Meg Donnelly.
The first made her resounding debut in the spin-off of Game Of Thrones, House of the Dragon, in which she plays young Rhaenyra Targaryen. The second is the protagonist of the musical franchise Zombies, produced by Disney Channel. She also voiced Supergirl in two DC animated feature films.

The character of Supergirl, also called Kara Zor-El, is Superman’s cousin, and her solo film will be inspired by a comic book mini-series written by Tom King. The screenwriter and playwright Ana Nogueira is currently writing the script for the film which does not yet have a director. This screenwriter is “beyond my expectations”, James Gunn has already said. Superman: Legacy will be the first feature film of this new era of DC but fans should not expect Supergirl to be just a female version of the Man of Steel.

According to the pitch of the mini-series and the script of Woman of Tomorrow, we will follow Kara Zor-El growing up completely alone on the debris of the planet Krypton, while her cousin Kal-El, aka Clark Kent managed to be sent to Earth and was raised by a loving family. “She watched everyone around her perish in a terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character” explain James Gunn.
The filmmaker will direct Superman: Legacywith David Corenswet in the role of the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan in that of Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Filming will begin in March and the film is scheduled for release on July 9, 2025.
