Terminator scrapped: the Netflix animated series is already canceled

Terminator Zero will not have a season 2.

System shutdown.

Terminator Zero is already over. The Netflix animated series is being decommissioned after just one season, as its creator Mattson Tomlin confirmed on his networks.

“The critical and public reception was great, but in the end not enough people watched it,” he explains, acknowledging that the audience did not follow despite the enthusiasm. The screenwriter, however, assures that he had planned an ambitious plan: “I would have loved to show the war of the future that I had imagined for seasons 2 and 3, but I am also happy that the story works as a whole.”

However, the project was designed over time:

“Maybe one day I’ll do a long thread about my plan for five seasons. I wrote all the scripts for season 2 and almost all of season 3… Maybe I’ll return to this universe in another form.”

A statement which confirms that the shutdown is final, a year and a half after the initial release in August 2024, after months without news of renewal.

Anchored in the universe of the cult saga, the series followed a soldier sent in 1997 to protect a scientist developing an AI capable of competing with a future Skynet attack. Between moral dilemmas and an assassin from the future, the destiny of humanity – and that of three children – found itself caught in a temporal spiral.

End of mission therefore for Terminator Zero, which joins the long list of ambitious series stopped too early by the algorithm.
