Terrifying new trailer for Robert Eggers’ Werwulf

A dark and sinister dive into medieval England, with Lily-Rose Depp…

Robert Eggers has fangs.

The director of The Lighthouse And Nosferatu unveils a particularly dark second trailer for Werwulfhis new gothic horror film set in medieval England, around a werewolf.

And like the first trailer, this one was released on a full moon day (clever!). Timing perfectly assumed by Eggers. Last June, the filmmaker explained to Empire: “For werewolf fans, it is often said that the connection between the full moon and werewolves comes from cinema. But I found a very, very old English text – older than the time in which the film takes place – which does say that werewolves are affected by the cycle of the moon. There are also similar things in Icelandic literature. So… I went for it.“

The atmosphere therefore promises to be particularly sinister in this black and white and 4/3 video. Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe and Aaron Taylor-Johnson appear in these new images, with scenes that seem to confirm that Eggers intends to deliver another nightmarish dive into medieval folklore.

The official synopsis promises nothing less than “Robert Eggers’ most visceral and haunted experience to date“. The film is presented as “a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation, and the demon within each of us.”

The story takes place in the 14th century and follows a mute 14-year-old peasant, cursed and condemned to transform into a werewolf every full moon. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays this quiet family man before the curse comes to turn everything upside down.

The screenplay is co-written by Robert Eggers and the Icelandic novelist Sjón, with whom the filmmaker had already collaborated on The Northman.

Werwulf will be released in American theaters on December 25, 2026 and on January 6, 2027 in France in cinemas.
