Box office: The Odyssey marks the third best start of the year

With more than 230,000 spectators on its first day, Nolan’s epic began better than Oppenheimer.

Christopher Nolan already has one of the summer hits.

Released Wednesday in 730 theaters, The Odyssey attracted 230,000 spectators for its first day of operation in France.

An excellent launch which allows it to obtain the third best first day of 2026, behind two behemoths.

At the top of the ranking remains Super Mario Galaxywhich started with 315,000 admissions, ahead of the biopic Michaellaunched with 285,000 spectators.

However, The Odyssey confirms its status as an event and should establish itself as one of the great cinematographic successes of the summer holidays.

The film does much better than Marsupilami by Philippe Lacheau. The comedy attracted 120,000 spectators on its first day (more than 308,000 including the numerous previews).

Christopher Nolan’s new film also exceeds the start ofOppenheimerwhich attracted 160,000 spectators during its French release in 2023. The biopic dedicated to the father of the atomic bomb then enjoyed exceptional word of mouth to end its career at 4.5 million admissions.

Finally, The Odyssey achieves a score very close to that of Tenetwhich opened to 236,000 admissions in August 2020, before running out of steam and completing its French run with 2.35 million spectators.
