Trailer for Alice and Steve: the most annoying rom’com in the world
Jemaine Clement is going out with her best friend’s daughter and obviously, she has a hard time swallowing the pill…
It’s a new gem coming to Disney+.
Crowned at the Canneseries festival last April, Alice and Steve promises an anti-romcom as embarrassing as it is amusing, carried by Jemaine Clement and Nicola Walker, based on this very gloomy concept: what if your best friend fell in love with your daughter?
The synopsis states: “Alice is devastated when her best friend Steve begins dating her 26-year-old daughter Izzy. In an instant, she risks losing both her closest friend and her daughter. Alice then tries everything in her power to end the relationship. But Steve is more than ready to fight back, and what was initially a perfect friendship gradually turns into all-out war. Will Alice eventually forgive Steve ?Will Steve and Izzy make their relationship work? One thing is certain: their lives will never be the same again.
As its pitch promises, the trailer transforms this broken friendship into a chaotic playground: low blows, absurd situations and score-settling follow one another as Alice desperately tries to implode the relationship. Behind its very British humor, the series also seems to ask more bitter questions about the limits of friendship and what remains when it descends into resentment.
The cast also brings together Joel Fry (Cruella), Yali Topol Margalith (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder), as well as Tyrese Eaton-Dyce, Marcia Warren, Eilidh Fisher and Ebony Aboagye.
Alice and Steve was created and written by Sophie Goodhart (Sex Education) and directed by Tom Kingsley.
The six episodes of season 1 will be available for streaming on Disney+ from Monday June 8, in France.
